The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has rejected allegations that China failed to provide timely information to Nepal about the disaster in the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung border area, calling the claims “fake news” and untrue.

In a clarification issued by the embassy, the Chinese side dismissed two major allegations: that China failed to give advance warning to Nepal, resulting in a significant loss of life on the Nepali side, and that Nepal suffered major losses after a geological disaster dam on the Chinese side collapsed.

The embassy said the actual sequence of events was different from what had been reported.

According to the Chinese side, an earthquake or earthquake-like avalanche occurred in the area on the morning of August 26, 2026. The event triggered a massive landslide in the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung border area, causing casualties and leaving people missing on both the Nepali and Chinese sides.

The Chinese Embassy urged both sides not to engage in mutual blame at a sensitive time when rescue and relief efforts are underway. Instead, it called for cooperation to address the disaster and save lives.

“Accusations do not solve anything; cooperation saves lives,” the embassy said.

The clarification comes amid growing public concern over the disaster and questions about whether timely information was shared with the Nepali authorities.
